My Girl decided to be an Owl for Halloween this year.
I was tasked to either find an affordable pre-made costume, or make it...
After coming up empty in our search for a pre-made costume, I dusted off my sewing machine, rummaged through my scrap materials and yarn and took on the challenge of making it.
My Girl and I browsed knitting patterns for a mask that might resemble an owl and came upon this pattern: Zsa Mask
I cast on and knit away.... I finished it off with felt additions and tassels on the ears.
We knew immediately (after seeing it on Pinterest) that we would use this tutorial for the wings.
The only modifications I made were to cut each set of four feathers. I didn't have enough material to double them up.
The wings were made entirely out of materials we already had, either from previous projects or projects that never came to fruition.
We had lots of ideas for Baby Boy's costumes.
In the end I stayed up a little late one night and knit up a quick little Bear Hat.
45 minutes from start to finish! Thank goodness for big needles and yarn!

730 Days

We recently celebrated 730 wonderful days with Baby Boy!
We kept the celebration low-key and limited to just the four of us.
For fun we went to the local pumpkin patch, where both of the kids experienced their first hay ride pulled by a John Deere tractor!
We picked out our pumpkins to carve, and two little ones to paint.
Afterwards, we ate yummy Pumpkin Muffins and opened Sissy's present. (A Mini Pillow Pet that matches hers!)
Daddy & Mommy are still making his present...will share later. ;)
It was a beautiful day, to celebrate a beautiful boy!

Father's Day 2011

Last week while planning our menu, I made plans to make a Dr Pepper cake for My Love for Father's Day.
I guess My Girl took it as the theme because she went all out with the decorations and little creative  touches. (can you spot the Dr Pepper confetti?  :)

Father's Day 2011

After a slow morning at home eating pancakes (I made BACON, and put a little in My Loves pancake batter.) and gardening we spent the afternoon and evening with dear friends and had yummy mexican food for dinner.
The last two images show My Love's "loot." My Girl was really creative with her gifts...me, not so much. But I got him something he wanted. ;)

Mother's Day 2011

I was awakened from a deep sleep by My Girl... She smiled brightly, and declared that breakfast was ready! In fact it was "right here!"
She proudly presented a tray with heart-shaped pancakes, butter, syrup and a copy of the "Mom's Gazette."
She had made the pancakes all by herself with only minimal help from Daddy when the batter was not exactly pour-able. ;)
What a wonderful way to wake up.
Something I've been waiting 10 years for! :)

I enjoyed sipping my coffee on the patio in my hammock chair, with my loves in view. I also received a very lovely Lisa Leonard Designs necklace from my wonderful hubby! I've been wanting one of her pieces for a long time!

HAPPY 'one day closer to the Lord' DAY!!!!!

When my friend Steve posted this on my Facebook wall on my birthday, I took it as "another year to grow closer to the Lord."
But of course, being the jokester he is, he actually meant it to be taken as "you're not getting any younger and you will meet your Maker sooner rather than later!" Ha! Ha! :) Funny guy!

You know the saying "You're only as old as you feel..."
Some days I feel like a haggard old lady and others I feel as young and free as a kid.
Like last weekend when our little family went roller skating (a whole blog post on it's own coming soon) it took me no time at all to go whipping around that indoor rink like I was 9 again!
Then 2 days later I was aching and felt muscles I hadn't felt in years! ha! ha!
It has been a challenging year to say the least.
New town, new routines, new weather, new lessons learned about myself.
Here's to a new year full of new adventures!

a scene from Christmas morning...

She's playing games with her new Webkinz, and Shining Star.
(and no, you do not need to adjust your eyes, it is out of focus on purpose... :) That's how I got the little hearts to show up on the tree. :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Gwyneth bought me a cute card with chocolate lips. Just couldn't pass up the goofy photo-op! :o) There were better ones, but Photoshop was running slow, and my patience ran out! Maybe I'll post some more tomorrow!

Pumpkin Carving 2005

We had a very beautiful day on Saturday! Sunny, and cool...Perfect weather for pumpkin carving! Since we carved our pumpkins later in the day the sun set and we were able to see our finished creations glowing in the night. My Girl's two cousins chose a Kim Possible design, and one free formed her design. My Girl chose Sully from "Monsters Inc." Katie came down for the occasion and was so kind to make Pumpkin Soup, and a beautiful, delicious winter salad with romaine, apples, herbed goat cheese, and vinaigrette dressing made with fresh herbs from her garden. I have decided to make the Pumpkin Soup part of our annual pumpkin carving tradition. My Girl and her cousins did more playing than carving. When it came time to gut the pumpkins, they all had a chance to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. My Girl wasn't crazy about sticking her hand into the gooey innards. ha! But she gave into peer pressure!
